On Tuesday March 21st over 20 of our members and one of our junior members met at Birkdale Library for a practical meeting to explore the methods for identifying pollen grains in honey - technically called "melissopalynology".We had two centrifuges, two microscopes and a laptop computer connected to one of the microscopes.
The more experienced members set to using the equipment and samples brought by members.
We had made an early start so supper of sandwiches and the usual array of home made cakes kept people entertained whilst they were waiting for results to come through.
The final count of pollen was not high but it brought home how time consuming the process can be.
