We had a look at our stored supers this morning and on one of the frames we found this – it doesn’t look like wax moth to us but more like mould. Does anyone know what it is and what we should do about it? Thanks in advance.
I agree it does not look like wax moth – looks much too nice! Might there be a bit of honey in those cells that has just attracted a bit of fungal growth? I can’t identify it, I’m afraid – I’m interested to know if someone else can
An afterthought: Have you dug down into the cells to see what is there? It could be mouldy pollen. Usually, this just goes dark/black on the surface but I noticed that some of mine has started to grow a white mycelium, not unlike your photo – maybe this strange damp autumn has encouraged a different kind of fungus. I don’t usually do anything about it – the bees clean it up in the spring
