A select few members joined in the above Christmas -themed 2nd Monday meeting on 14th December.
We started with a timely talk from David Blower on ‘Winter oxalic acid treatment for managing varroa population’. The key of course is timing – doing the treatment during a period when ideally there is no sealed brood. David illustrated this period, from when the queen stops laying, with the following graph:

After the talk and questions we moved onto the quiz, 18 questions about bees and beekeeping (more or less!) and 2 sneaky questions about Shipston-on-Stour. The winner was Margery Blower who won a Thorne’s voucher.
And then on to the bee-themed Christmas Headgear competition. Lisa Scanlon was, ahem, volunteered to judge and chose the quite amazing ‘crown’ worn by Ray Pearce, who has also received his prize of a Thorne’s voucher.

It would have been nice to see a few more members attend but a good time was had by those who were there. See you in 2021.
